Gluten-Free Travel

Travel shouldn't make
you sick.

As someone with celiac disease, I've been navigating gluten-free travel for a decade — including learning the hard way on my own honeymoon. That experience turned into an obsession, and that obsession turned into expertise that now protects every client I work with.

You deserve to go anywhere in the world and eat safely. Let me show you how.

Plan My Gluten-Free Trip

Why This Matters

"My first trip after my celiac diagnosis was my honeymoon. I glutened myself on day one and spent the first night sick. There had to be a better way — and I made it my mission to find it."
— Danielle, Founder of Salt + Sol Travel Co

From Personal to Professional

I don't just plan
gluten-free trips. I live them.

When I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I genuinely thought my love of travel was over. So much of the travel experience — every celebration, every resort, every cruise ship — revolves around food. The idea of navigating all of that with celiac felt impossible and honestly terrifying.

But I refused to stop. I started researching, vetting, asking the questions that most people don't know to ask, and learning which destinations, resorts, and cruise lines actually take celiac seriously versus which ones just say they do. I've eaten my way through Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and more — safely, deliciously, and without spending my vacation stressed about every single meal.

When I tell you a resort or cruise line handles celiac well, it's because I know — not because I read it somewhere.

That hard-earned knowledge is what I bring to every single gluten-free travel booking. My clients don't have to figure this out the way I did. They have me.

How I Protect You

What gluten-free travel planning actually looks like.

🔍

Resort & Cruise Vetting

I only recommend properties that I've personally vetted for celiac safety — looking at kitchen protocols, cross-contamination practices, and real guest experiences. Not what the brochure says.

📋

Pre-Arrival Communication

Your dietary needs are communicated to the resort or cruise line before you ever arrive. You don't show up and hope for the best — the right people already know you're coming.

🌍

Allergy Cards in Native Languages

Every gluten-free client receives a custom allergy card translated into the native language of their destination. Because "I have celiac disease" hits differently when the kitchen staff can actually read it.

📖

Custom Pre-Travel Packet

Your pre-travel packet includes destination-specific dining guidance, questions to ask at check-in, safe restaurant recommendations where applicable, and everything else you need to eat safely from day one.

🚢

Cruise Line Expertise

Cruise ships can actually be incredible for celiac travelers when you know which lines do it right and how to communicate your needs. I've done the research so you don't have to.

🤝

Ongoing Support

I'm reachable while you travel. If a dining situation comes up that needs to be addressed, you're not navigating it alone — I'm a message away.

A Step Further

Your allergy card,
in their language.

This is one of the things I do that most travel advisors don't even think about. Every gluten-free and celiac client receives a custom allergy card translated into the native language of their destination before they leave home.

Because the reality is — when you're at a resort in Mexico or sitting down at a restaurant in Italy or boarding a river cruise in France, handing someone a card that clearly states your dietary needs in their own language is one of the most effective safety tools you have. It removes the guesswork, the language barrier, and the "I think they understood me" anxiety.

It's a small thing that makes a very big difference.

Available in multiple languages including:

  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Portuguese
  • Dutch
  • Greek
  • And more

Your card is customized to your specific needs — not a generic template. If you have multiple dietary restrictions, all of them are included.

Your Role in This

I do the work.
You still need to advocate for yourself.

I'm going to be straight with you — because that's how I operate. I do everything I possibly can to set your trip up for success before you leave. The vetting, the pre-arrival communication, the allergy cards, the custom packet — all of it is designed to protect you.

But once you're in destination, you are your own best advocate. No travel advisor, no matter how thorough, can be at the table with you for every meal. And the reality of traveling with celiac disease is that you have to stay engaged, ask questions, and speak up — even when it feels awkward or repetitive.

I'll give you everything you need to do that confidently. But please — use it.

01

Always Mention It at Check-In

Even if it was communicated in advance, remind the front desk and restaurant staff at every property you stay at. Reinforce it. Don't assume the message was passed along perfectly.

02

Use Your Allergy Card Every Time

Hand it to your server at every single meal. Don't decide it's not necessary at a "safe looking" restaurant. It takes two seconds and it matters.

03

Ask the Specific Questions

Not just "is this gluten free?" Ask about shared fryers, shared preparation surfaces, and whether the kitchen staff understands cross-contamination. Your pre-travel packet will have the exact questions to use.

04

Trust Your Gut — Literally

If something feels off about how your question was answered, it's okay to skip that dish or that restaurant. Your health is more important than being polite about it.

Destination Guide

Where gluten-free travelers thrive — and where to be careful.

🇲🇽

Mexico

★ Highly Recommended

Mexico is one of my top destinations for celiac travelers, especially at luxury all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya and Los Cabos. Resort culinary teams are generally well-trained and responsive when needs are communicated in advance.

🇨🇷

Costa Rica

★ Hidden Gem for Celiac Travelers

Costa Rica is genuinely one of the best destinations I recommend for gluten-free travelers. The food culture is naturally rich in rice, beans, and fresh produce, and awareness of celiac needs has grown significantly. A wonderful surprise.

🇪🇺

Europe

★ Excellent with Preparation

Italy, in particular, has some of the best celiac awareness in the world — there are certified gluten-free restaurants throughout the country. France, Spain, and other destinations are very manageable with the right preparation and allergy cards.

🚢

Ocean Cruises

★ Can Be Exceptional

The right cruise line handled the right way can actually be one of the safest dining experiences for celiac travelers. Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Virgin Voyages are my top picks — with advance communication being absolutely essential.

🌊

River Cruises

★ Good with Communication

River cruises through Europe with lines like AmaWaterways offer intimate dining experiences where dietary needs can be addressed very personally. Smaller guest counts mean kitchen staff can accommodate you more easily.

🏝️

Smaller Caribbean Islands

★ Varies — Be Prepared

I'll be honest with you here — smaller islands can be more challenging for celiac travelers. Local restaurants may have limited awareness and fewer options. Staying at a well-vetted resort with strong dining protocols matters even more in these destinations.

💬

A Note on Honesty

I will never send a celiac client somewhere I'm not confident about just to make a booking. If a destination or property isn't the right fit for your needs, I'll tell you — and I'll find you somewhere better. Your safety is not a selling point. It's a non-negotiable.

Beyond Gluten

I also work with
other dietary needs.

Celiac disease is my personal experience and my deepest expertise — but the same level of care and vetting I apply to gluten-free travel extends to other dietary restrictions as well. Whether you're traveling with a nut allergy, a dairy intolerance, a shellfish allergy, or any other dietary need, I factor it into every aspect of your trip planning.

You shouldn't have to choose between eating safely and having an incredible vacation. That's true for every traveler, not just those of us with celiac disease.
